No one felt worse than the NFL’s leading receiver, Wes Welker, after he failed to catch a key pass late in Super Bowl XLVI. And no one sounded more irked about it than Gisele Bundchen, particularly after taunting Giants fans yelled at her: “Eli rules. Eli owns your husband.”

“You [have] to catch the ball when you’re supposed to catch the ball,” she says in the video here. “My husband cannot… throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”

Tom Brady made a couple mistakes himself, however, as some fans argued that the ball was thrown behind Welker. Bundchen was making her way to an elevator after watching the New England Patriots lose the Super Bowl when she encountered the exuberant if not classy New York Giants fans.

Jay Paterno leaned over his dying father, gave him a kiss, and whispered in his ear.

“Dad, you won,” he said. “You did all you could do. You’ve done enough. We all love you. We won. You can go home now.”

Joe Paterno died Sunday of lung cancer at age 85.

At a memorial service Thursday that drew some 12,000 people to the Penn State basketball arena, Jay Paterno reflected on what he called the “magnificent daylight” of his legendary father’s life. It was primarily a glowing tribute to Paterno and his accomplishments during 46 years as Penn State’s football coach — but also an opportunity to defend his legacy against criticism that he failed to do more when told about an alleged child sexual assault involving one of his former assistants.

Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight won a thunderous standing ovation when he defended Paterno’s handling of the 2002 allegations against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Paterno, he hinted, had been made a scapegoat.

“If there is a villain in this tragedy, it lies in that investigation and not in Joe Paterno’s response,” Knight said. Paterno’s widow, Sue, was among those rising to their feet.

Capping three days of mourning on campus, the 2½-hour ceremony was filled with lavish praise for the man called “JoePa.” Paterno racked up more wins — 409 — than any other major-college football coach, led his team to two national championships, and preached “success with honor” while insisting his athletes focus on academics. The Paternos donated millions to Penn State.

Though the campus and surrounding community have been torn with anger over the Sandusky scandal and Paterno’s summary dismissal by the board of trustees two months before his death, Jay Paterno said his father didn’t hold a grudge.

“Despite all that had happened to him, he never wavered in his belief, in his dream, of Penn State. He told me he wanted to use his remaining time on earth to see Penn State continue to thrive. He never spoke ill and never wanted anyone to feel badly for him,” Paterno said.

Players from each decade of Paterno’s career as the Nittany Lions’ coach spoke in loving terms about their mentor, saying he rode them hard, but always had their best interests at heart and encouraged them to complete their educations and become productive members of their communities.

Among the speakers were Michael Robinson, who played for Paterno from 2002 to 2005 and flew in from Hawaii, where he was practicing for his first Pro Bowl; star quarterback Todd Blackledge from the 1980s; and Jimmy Cefalo, a star in the 1970s. Like Robinson, Blackledge and Cefalo went on to play in the NFL.

Former NFL player Charles V. Pittman, speaking for players from the 1960s, called Paterno a lifelong influence and inspiration.

Pittman said Paterno challenged his young players, once bringing Pittman to tears in his sophomore year. He said he realized later that the coach was molding him into the man he would become.

“What I now know is that Joe wasn’t trying to build perfection. That doesn’t exist and he knew it. He was, bit by bit, building a habit of excellence,” said Pittman, now a media executive on the board of The Associated Press.

Paterno was fired Nov. 9 after he was criticized for not going to police in 2002 when he was told that Sandusky had been seen sexually assaulting a boy in the showers. Sandusky was arrested in November and is awaiting trial on charges that he molested 10 boys over a 15-year span.

As the scandal erupted, Pennsylvania’s state police commissioner said Paterno may have met his legal duty but not his moral one. Penn State president Graham Spanier was also fired in the fallout.

Knight, appearing about midway through the memorial, became the first speaker to explicitly address the scandal. He said the coach “gave full disclosure to his superiors, information that went up the chains to the head of the campus police and the president of the school. The matter was in the hands of a world-class university, and by a president with an outstanding national reputation.”

Lanny J. Davis, an attorney for the board, responded after the service by saying: “All the reasons for the board’s difficult and anguished decision — made unanimously, including former football players and everyone who still loves Coach Paterno and his memory — reached a decision which was heartfelt. All 32.”

“The facts speak for themselves” and include the grand jury testimony, he said.

Chris Marrone, another former player who eulogized Paterno, said Knight was his “new hero” for expressing the “pent-up frustration” of Paterno’s supporters.

“I think the response that he got is indicative of how folks feel,” Marrone said.

Only one member of the university administration — the dean of the college of liberal arts — and no one from the board of trustees spoke at the memorial, which was arranged primarily by the Paterno family.

People said it felt good to remember and celebrate the good times.

Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak, who played for Paterno, said he attended the service “because I’m a part of his legacy.”

“It was not only about football,” Munchak said. “It was about life and how he affected all of us as men.”

Longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak says he used to host the popular game show drunk. “When I first started and was much younger and could tolerate those things,” Sajak tells Dan Le Batard of “Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable.” “We had a different show then.”

The 65-year-old, who has hosted Wheel of Fortune since 1981, says he and right-hand woman Vanna White used to go to a local Mexican restaurant in Burbank during their two-and-a-half hour dinner breaks. That break gave the duo more than enough time to knock a couple margaritas back before the night tapings. “Vanna and I would go across and have two or three or six and then come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet. They’re really great tapes to get a hold of,” Sajak said. “I had a great time. I have no idea if the shows were any good, but no one said anything, so I guess I did OK.”

Unfortunately, margaritas – or any sort of alcohol for that matter – no longer play a part in Sajak’s hosting routine. “I would be hesitant to have anything to drink now,” he said. What a  _arty  _oo_er.

Mitt Romney’s rivals have one more chance to bruise the front-runner ahead of Tuesday’s voting during a Sunday morning faceoff just hours after he largely brushed aside their criticism in the opening round of a weekend debate doubleheader.

The six GOP hopefuls are set to spar one final time before voters go to the polls Tuesday in New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary.

They met onstage in nearby Manchester less than 12 hours earlier. That Saturday night contest left Romney’s rivals squabbling among themselves and unable to knock him off stride.

Romney, in turn, largely ignored his fellow Republicans and focused instead on President Barack Obama.

“His policies have made the recession deeper and his policies have made the recovery more tepid,” he said, despite a declining unemployment rate and the creation of 200,000 jobs last month.

Over the course of the lively 90-minute debate, there were attacks aplenty as Romney’s GOP opponents vied to emerge as his principal rival in the primaries ahead. Romney won an eight-vote victory in the Iowa caucuses last Tuesday and is far ahead in the pre-primary polls in New Hampshire.

That leaves his pursuers little time to stop his rise, and, all but conceding New Hampshire to the former governor of next-door Massachusetts, they’re mostly focusing their efforts on the South Carolina primary on Jan. 21.

Romney, who often touts his business background, was attacked in the opening minutes of the debate.

Rick Santorum went first, dismissing him as a mere manager.

“Being a president is not a CEO. You’ve got to lead and inspire,” he said.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich followed a few moments later, referring to published accounts that described how some workers were laid off after Bain Capital, the firm Romney once led, invested in their companies and sought to turn them around by cutting staff and firing workers.

He said Romney should be judged on the basis of whether “on balance, were people better off or worse off by this style of management.”

In reply, Romney said Bain had created 100,000 jobs, and that a businessman’s experience was far better to fix the economy than a career spent in Washington.

“I’m very proud of the fact that the two enterprises I led were successful,” he said, referring to Bain and another firm.

More than an hour later, Romney turned one question about his vision for the country into an attack on Obama that is part of his standard campaign speech. While his rivals stood by silently, he accused the president of trying to turn the United States into a “European-style welfare state.”

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, meanwhile, assailed Santorum as a “big government person,” an allegation the former Pennsylvania senator disputed. Santorum, a social conservative, finished a close second to Romney in Iowa this week, with Paul coming in third.

Gingrich was fourth in Iowa, Texas Gov. Rick Perry fifth and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, who has since quit the race, finished last. Jon Huntsman, a former governor of Utah, did not compete there, putting his effort into trying to make a good showing in New Hampshire.

The skirmishes reflected the state of the race: Romney the acknowledged front-runner under attack from his rivals, who face an increasingly urgent need to emerge as his main conservative challenger.

Saturday’s debate at Saint Anselm College was the first in more than three weeks, and the first since Bachmann’s departure.

In Notre Dame’s three early season losses turnovers, poor second-half performances and an inability to score in red zone were costly.

The Irish thought they’d put those problems behind them after winning five of their final six games of the regular season.

Those issues came back Thursday night and it proved too much for them in an 18-14 loss to Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl.

Florida State rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit and used a pair of touchdown passes by E.J. Manuel and two field goals from Dustin Hopkins to secure the win.

The victory was FSU’s fourth straight bowl win. The loss snapped a streak of two straight bowl wins for the Irish and drops their overall bowl record to 15-16.

FSU receiver Rashad Greene, who caught one of Manuel’s touchdown passes, was the game’s MVP.

“It started in South Florida,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly of the Irish’s issues of turnovers and missed opportunities.

“And it continued to shoot itself throughout the entire year. We know what we need to do. We’ve already talked about it, and the players that are going to be back for the 2012 football season will be committed to getting that end done.”

The No. 25 Seminoles (9-4) started four freshmen on their offensive line and gave up five sacks, but FSU’s defense picked off Notre Dame quarterbacks Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix three times and had four sacks.

Junior linebacker Manti Te’o, who led Notre Dame with 13 tackles and got in on a sack Thursday, said fatigue was not a factor in the Irish not being able to maintain pressure on Manuel in the fourth quarter.

“They made their corrections and we just, as a defense, we just needed to get to the quarterback and we knew what E.J. could do back there when he had time,” he said. “So that is something that we have to look at.

“We have a long time to prepare for next year, and when that time comes, that doesn’t happen again.”

Notre Dame shuffled between Rees and Hendrix throughout the game, but both struggled to get the Irish points inside the red zone, converting on 1 of 3 for the game. They also a combined 19 for 35 and just 187 yards passing.

FSU scored on all four of its red zone chances.

The Irish also were without their biggest offensive weapon late, with receiver Michael Floyd being forced to the sideline following a third-quarter touchdown catch with what coach Brian Kelly described afterward was an “upper-body injury.”

He returned to the game, but was a non-factor.

After some stagnant offense on both sides in the first half, FSU trailed 14-0 early in the third quarter before finding momentum through the air.

The Seminoles closed the gap to 14-9 with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Manuel to Bert Reed to open the fourth quarter, but failed on their 2-point conversion attempt.

They took the lead just 1:32 later after Nigel Bradham intercepted a Hendrix pass inside the Notre Dame 20 to set up an 18-yard touchdown catch by Greene to make it 15-14 with just over 13 minutes to play following another failed 2-point try.

The Seminoles added their second field goal of the game a series later.

Notre Dame punted on its next possession, but pinned FSU inside its own 5 and forced a quick three-and-out.

A poor punt by the Seminoles and a facemask penalty on the return gave the Irish the ball on the FSU 28 with 3:56 to play, but Rees was picked off in the end zone with 2:48 left and FSU was able run out most of the remaining time.

Notre Dame took a 14-0 lead on its opening drive of the second half by capping a nine-play, 62-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Rees to Floyd. Floyd fought Seminoles cornerback Greg Reid for the ball on to play, juggling it multiple times before finally getting his hands around it.

Reid stayed down on the turf after the play and left the game with concussion symptoms.

FSU bounced right back with a 77-yard kickoff return by Lamarcus Joyner, but Notre Dame’s fifth sack of the night on Manuel helped force the Seminoles to settle for a 42-yard field goal by Hopkins.

Notre Dame’s defense was responsible for the lone score of the first half.

The Irish forced a quick punt on FSU’s opening possession of the game, and used a 41-yard return by Floyd and a series of runs by Cierre Wood to set up a first-and-goal inside the 5-yard line.

But the threat ended just a play later when Rees was picked off by Joyner in the end zone.

The Seminoles’ ensuing drive lasted only one play, with Devonta Freeman fumbling a pass from Manuel into the hands of Notre Dame safety Zeke Motta, who then returned it 29 yards for the touchdown.

Both offenses struggled to find any traction in the opening 30 minutes.

Along with each team’s turnovers, Florida State’s offense gained only 104 total yards to Notre Dame’s 91.

OAKLAND — Stephen Curry had 21 points and 10 assists, Monta Ellis scored 26 points and the Golden State Warriors beat the Chicago Bulls 99-91 on Monday, giving rookie coach Mark Jackson his first victory at any level.

David Lee added 22 points and seven rebounds and Dominic McGuire made three free throws in the final 47 seconds to seal the win for Golden State.

Luol Deng, whose block of Kobe Bryant as time expired sealed Chicago’s season-opening 88-87 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls, who trailed by as much as 19 before making a late surge to get within 96-91 with 36.3 seconds remaining.

Derrick Rose had an off night shooting and finished with 13 points for Chicago.

Rose went 4 of 17 from the floor and missed badly on a pair of 3-pointers in the final moments, including an airball with 25.9 seconds left.

It was similar to a year ago when the Warriors, playing at home, held Rose to a quiet 14 points and 10 assists and beat the Bulls 101-90.

Ellis drew the assignment against Rose in that game. This time it was almost exclusively Curry, who followed Rose closely throughout the night and prevented the league’s reigning MVP from getting settled in.

A day after making series of late-game breakdowns against Chris Paul and the Clippers in a 105-86 loss, the Warriors built a double-digit lead in the first quarter then had to hold off the Bulls.

Chicago, which is in the midst of a season-opening four-game road trip, has lost nine of its last 10 games in Oakland.

Ellis, held to 15 in the season-opening loss to the Clippers, got the Warriors going with 13 points in the first quarter but it was Curry who provided the biggest lift.

He scored 12 straight points and drove past three Chicago defenders in the key to cap a 16-5 run and give Golden State a 46-27 lead. Curry also shadowed Rose and helped hold him to seven points in the first half.

Rose, who hit the game-winner in the Bulls 88-87 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, took only three shots in the first quarter when Chicago committed eight turnovers.

The Warriors increased their lead to 17 after three before the Bulls made their late push to get within 93-85 with 1:44 left.

Kyle Korver made a pair of 3-pointers in a 14-second span to pull Chicago within 96-91 but the Bulls couldn’t get closer than that.

Notes: Chicago’s 14 first-half turnovers equaled their total from the previous night. … It was the first time in 10 years the Warriors have opened the season with games on consecutive nights. Golden State also plays its next two at Oracle Arena. … The sellout crowd included New York Yankees pitcher C.C. After playing sparingly during his first six years with the Miami Heat, Dorell Wright came out of nowhere last season to shoot a league-best 194 3-pointers for the Warriors.

But don’t just label him a shooter.

“I take what the defense gives me,” Wright said. “They let me shoot a lot of 3s last year, so I’ll take it. This year, guys are gonna be playing me a little closer so I’m gonna have to put the ball on the floor, and I understand that.”

For the second offseason in a row, the small forward worked out with Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and Tyreke Evans — three point guards known for getting to the hoop.

“It was us four each and every morning down in L.A.,” said Wright, who grew up in Los Angeles. “Working out with guys at that elite talent, with the MVP of the league [Rose], you see how hard they work. It just pushes you, because a lot of the things we do are competitive drills. You always wanna be the best shooter, you always wanna be the best finisher. … They pushed me to be a better player.”

Wright’s game made big strides during his first campaign with the Warriors, as he developed a pump-fake midseason that routinely forced defenders into the air, allowing him to draw a foul or drive to the hoop.

Creating his own shot and incorporating a few moves with his back to the basket would be the next logical steps inbecoming a more threatening offensive player this season.

In addition to rounding out his offensive game, Wright has been working on his defense as well.

“Playing in the NBA, man, the three position — that’s a position where they bring it every night so I gotta be prepared,” Wright said. “You gotta hold your man accountable and go out there and defend.”

Don’t worry, though, Warriors fans, Wright will still be stroking it from downtown when he gets the chance.

“I dont think I’m gonna make 194 again,” Wright said. “But hey, if I’m open 194 times, trust me, I’m gonna try to knock ’em down 194 times.”

In addition, we now track Santa using the Internet. Millions of people who want to know Santa’s whereabouts now visit the NORAD Tracks Santa website.

Finally, media from all over the world rely on NORAD as a trusted source to provide updates on Santa’s journey.
